How a Modern Partitioning Solution Redefined Functionality and Style for a Leading Educational Institution

Project Overview

When Blackpool & The Fylde College sought to reimagine the main entrance of its Bispham campus, the goal was clear: create a welcoming yet practical space for students and staff.  Previously a wide, open area, the entrance hall needed to be divided into functional rooms that could cater to different needs, all while maintaining an inviting atmosphere.

Our team worked in close collaboration with Fylde Splashbacks (the installer), who in turn partnered with  FJBS Building Contractors (the main contractor) to deliver a custom glass partition installation that was both stylish and built to last.

The Challenge

With the academic calendar approaching fast, the project had to be completed during the college’s summer closure to ensure the space was ready for the new term. The design required a balance of openness and division, providing clear boundaries without losing natural light or a sense of spaciousness.

The Solution

To bring this vision to life, we chose the Dynamik Single Glazing Partitioning & Door System, supplied by GlassParts UK, ensuring a seamless glass partition installation process. This versatile system allowed us to create a durable and elegant space tailored to the college’s specific needs.
Here’s a closer look at the materials and hardware used in the project:
  • Partition & Door Profiles: The main structure included 36x38mm black Dynamik partitioning profiles for fixed screens, with horizontal and vertical loft-style mullions to achieve a contemporary, industrial-inspired look. For the doors, we used black Dynamik door profiles paired with 19x2mm black flat loft-style profiles, along with Dynamik round door hinges and magnetic lever latches for a secure, sleek finish.
  • Glass Specification: The fixed screens utilised 12mm clear toughened glass, while the doors were crafted from 10mm clear toughened glass. Both glass types, supplied by TuffX, were selected for their durability, transparency, and safety.
  • Efficient Installation: GlassParts UK supplied pre-cut, mitred door frames, designed for seamless installation. The unique profile enabled hinges and receivers to be securely positioned within the frame’s channels, allowing for quick adjustments and precise alignment. This feature was essential for completing the project within the college’s limited downtime.

Project Execution

FJBS Building Contractors led the construction and coordinated with Fylde Splashbacks, the installation team responsible for the glass partitioning. The combined expertise of these teams ensured that every element was fitted flawlessly, from the fixed screens to the door hardware. The installation was executed efficiently, meeting the tight deadline and budget.

The Outcome

The completed glass partition installation successfully transformed Blackpool & The Fylde College’s entrance hall into a series of inviting, functional spaces. The partitioning system’s sleek, loft-style aesthetic adds a modern edge to the environment, while the clear toughened glass maintains openness and light flow. Students and staff were greeted with the new layout as they returned for the September term, marking a fresh chapter for the college’s Bispham campus.
