When working on a domestic installation, the right fixings make all the difference. In this blog, we’ll break down what you need to know when choosing and comparing the various options available on the market.
1. Understanding the Basics of Shelving Brackets
Shelving brackets come in a variety of designs and materials, each suited for different applications. The first step in choosing the right bracket is understanding the weight capacity and the environment in which they will be used.
- Light-Duty Glass Shelving Supports & Grips - Ideal for small shelves and decorative items, these are a good choice for bathrooms, home offices or display areas where aesthetics are important.
- Heavy-Duty Glass Shelving Supports & Grips- Robust and designed to support larger, heavier loads
- Glass Shelving Profiles - This style of shelving is perfect for continuous shelving up to 2.5m wide. Surprisingly strong with a maximum projection of 305mm.
2. Choosing the Right Fixings for Mirror Installations
When installing mirrors, whether for a domestic bathroom or living room, it's important to use the right fixings to ensure safety and stability. Mirrors can be heavy and delicate, so the fixings you choose should match the size, weight, and mounting surface.
- Mirror Screws - Available in a range of thread lengths. Our range included numerous types of coverheads and rubber grommets
- J Trims - Robust and strong, these are commonly used for large, sometimes floor to ceiling mirrors. Commonly found in home gym and bathrooms
- Easy Fix Countersunk Fixing- The smallest fixing on the market. Manufactured with high quality plastic, and clad with nickel cover plates.
- Perimeter & Corner Clips - For frameless mirrors, mirror clips are a good choice. These clips hold the mirror firmly against the wall without obscuring the design, offering a clean, modern look.
- Invisible Fixings - For less invasive installations we have a number of solutions. High performance Double Sided Tape , Magnetic Fixings, Self Adhesive Fixings are all available in various specifications.
- Off the Wall Fixings - These types of fittings do not need the glass to be drilled and stand the glass of the wall slightly. Perfect for imperfect walls
3. Key Factors to Consider When Choosing Shelving Brackets and Mirror Fixings
- Weight Load Capacity - Always consider the size and weight of the glass being used. Ensure that the fittings being used are fit for purpose.
- Wall Type - The type of wall you're mounting the shelves or mirrors on will affect your choice of fixings. For plasterboard, you'll need toggle bolts or plasterboard plugs, while masonry walls require wall plugs and anchors designed specifically for brick or stone.
- Aesthetics and Finish - The finish of the bracket or mirror fixings plays a large part in the overall look of the installation. The surrounding room should be considered, matching any other pre-existing fixtures and fittings.
- Ease of Installation - As busy professionals, efficiency should be considered. Thankfully all of our fittings have been selected with installers in mind.
4. Safety and Compliance Considerations
Always ensure that the glass used complies with relevant regulations, such as BS EN 12600 for mirrors and EN12150 for toughened glass. Fixings should always be selected to suit the size of the glass, the weight of the glass & the substrate that they are being fixed into.
Always opt for high-quality, durable products that align with the specific requirements of each job. With the right fixings, you can ensure that your shelving and mirror installations will not only look great but stand the test of time.
