Understanding Glass Spigots
Glass spigots are a fundamental component in modern architectural design, offering a minimalist design combined with robust structural integrity. This blog post delves into the technical specifications and benefits of using glass spigots for balustrade and barrier installations.
What are Glass Spigots?
At their core, glass spigots are floor mounted brackets which securely hold the glass in place vertically. They create a safe barrier while maintaining unobstructed views and a frameless appearance. This design maximises visible glass and enhances the sense of openness in any space. They are extremely versatile, suitable for both internal and external applications, and are commonly used to install glass barriers for terraces, balconies, and decking.
Key Technical Features:
- Glass Compatibility: Our spigots are designed to accommodate a range of glass thicknesses, specifically from 10mm to 21.5mm. This flexibility allows for various design and safety requirements. As always, you are not restricted to just clear glass. Why not consider tinted glass or laminated glass with decorative inserts such as fabrics?
- Structural Integrity: Crucially, our spigots are tested in accordance with BS6180 up to 0.74kN. This certification confirms their ability to withstand significant loads, ensuring safety and compliance with building regulations.
- Material Composition: Manufactured from Duplex 2205 grade stainless steel, these spigots are engineered for exceptional durability. Duplex 2205 is known for its high corrosion resistance and strength, making it ideal for even the harshest of outdoor environments, including coastal areas where salt spray is a concern.
- Installation Efficiency: Installation is straightforward and efficient. Only two spigots are required per metre of glass. This simplifies the installation process and reduces the labour time needed to complete projects.
- Finishing Options: To complement diverse design schemes, our spigots are available in Brushed Stainless Steel or Black, offering aesthetic versatility.
Why Choose Glass Spigots?
Beyond their technical specifications, glass spigots offer practical advantages:
- Unobstructed Views: Their frameless design ensures an uninterrupted line of sight.
- Modern Aesthetic: They provide a clean, contemporary look that enhances any architectural style.
- Durability: The use of Duplex 2205 stainless steel guarantees a long lifespan, even in challenging conditions.
- Ease of Installation: The simplified fixing method makes them a preferred choice for installers.
- Compliance: Tested to BS6180, they meet essential safety standards.
